Synthesis and characterization of alkali-activated loess and its application as protective coating

Environmental friendly and sustainable repair materials with reduced carbon emission have been in high demand worldwide. Frequent deterioration of cement concrete structures is unpreventable requires appropriate materials. Aside from the cementitious, polymeric or resinous used to remedy this problem, geopolymeric mortars are reported be more sustainable, considering lower energy required for its production intrinsic properties. When selecting geopolymer produced aluminosilicate waste as materials, a measured dissolution an adequate alkaline solution geopolymerization. Accordingly, paper examines synthesis properties alkali-activated loess, followed by effective application protective coating. The (GPMs) were made loess ground granulated blast slag (GGBS), activated either sodium hydroxide combination silicate solutions. Experimental results showed that, both alkali activators major influences on apparent viscosity, roughness, compressibility microstructural GPMs. Results nanoindentation also reveal good adhesion, higher bulk indent modulus hardness applied mortar, fact that makes great potential material barrier coating substrates.
